PTA issues statement on suspension of internet services

In the midst of nationwide protests, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced Wednesday that internet services in the country will be suspended indefinitely.

The services were suspended following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

The decision to prohibit mobile broadband services was made in accordance with Ministry of Interior regulations, it stated.

Social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter have been blocked in Pakistan since yesterday, and internet access has been interrupted in several places following the arrest of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) head Imran Khan.

In Pakistan, social media services such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter are still forbidden. The arrest followed the NAB’s arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan.

According to government sources, social media platforms were briefly shut down to curb the propaganda.

Following EX PM Imran Khan’s detention in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, protests erupted across the country.
