Pakistan announces to digitize hajj operations

In collaboration with the religious ministry, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications has revealed plans to entirely digitize next year’s hajj operations.

The decision was made earlier this month during a special committee meeting called by the prime minister.

Dr. Umar Saif, caretaker IT Minister, and Aneeq Ahmed, Religious Affairs Minister, chaired the meeting.

During the conference, the IT minister informed participants that a smartphone app and web portal will be created to digitize the entire Hajj process.

The IT minister asked the National Information Technology Board (NITB) to improve the existing Hajj operation system as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the caretaker government is finalizing the Hajj policy for 2024. The Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs, Aneeq Ahmed, said in a statement that the federal cabinet will adopt the Hajj policy within 10 days because the delay caused various complications.

He also stated that the policy encompasses a 40-day and short-duration Hajj. Pakistani Hajj pilgrims will no longer become disoriented because the government will equip them with two suitcases of different colors and designs, he added.

The Minister also stated that the documentation of Hajj pilgrims, such as passports, addresses, and other information, will be available in the QR code on the suitcase. In addition, pilgrims would be able to make unlimited phone calls to Pakistan.

Earlier, Aneeq Ahmed, the Caretaker Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, stated that the Saudi government would provide greater facilities and improved services to Pakistani pilgrims during the Hajj 2024.

He stated that pilgrims’ accommodations, meals, and transportation would be enhanced to provide a more comfortable and convenient experience.
