Govt Set to Impose Huge Tax on Solar Panel Users

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) has proposed a taxation measure to the government affecting both residential and commercial consumers who utilize solar energy systems.

According to insiders speaking to ProPakistani, CPPA-G has submitted a recommendation to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) regarding this taxation initiative.

The proposed tax is set at Rs. 2,000 per kilowatt for users of residential and commercial solar panels alike.

Sources reveal that users employing 12-kilowatt panels would be liable for a tax amounting to Rs. 24,000. The Ministry has forwarded the proposal to the prime minister for consideration and approval.

Furthermore, it's reported that there's ongoing consideration for adjusting the buyback rates of net metering electricity, with a summary for rationalization in progress.

Once greenlit, the proposal will proceed with an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for the adjustment of net metering electricity buyback rates.
