CPEC projects worth $25bn completed: PM

The Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, announced during his speech at the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing that Pakistan has successfully finished more than 50 projects valued at $25 billion as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

This initiative is a key component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and involves a commitment of over $65 billion for various infrastructure projects in Pakistan.

Kakar also mentioned the impending inauguration of a significant airport at the Gwadar port, which is being constructed with Chinese investment as a part of the CPEC. The Belt and Road Forum, attended by representatives from more than 130 countries, saw the presence of several world leaders, with Russian President Vladimir Putin being one of the most notable attendees and a close friend of China’s President Xi.

Pakistan has plans for future projects in collaboration with China, including the establishment of industrial zones and the construction of a massive 2600km rail track, which is the largest single project within the CPEC, costing nearly $7 billion.

Additionally, clean energy projects are set to be completed within the next four to five years as part of the CPEC’s ongoing development.
