Rising Wheat Prices Drive Flour Costs Higher in Lahore and Rawalpindi

Islamabad: Flour prices have started to climb again following a recent increase in wheat prices. After a brief dip with the arrival of the new wheat crop, flour prices are now rising once more.

In the Lahore and Rawalpindi divisions, the price of a flour bag has surged by up to Rs100 as wheat prices have escalated.

Sources report that in Lahore, the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has increased from Rs1,600 to Rs1,700, and in Rawalpindi, it has risen from Rs1,850 to Rs1,950. Similarly, the price of a 10-kilogram flour bag has gone up from Rs800 to Rs850.

Asim Raza, Chairman of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association, attributed the rise in flour prices directly to the increase in wheat prices. In Lahore, the price of wheat has risen from Rs2,900 to Rs2,950 per maund, while in the Rawalpindi division, it has reached Rs3,050 per maund.

Flour mill owners are concerned that flour prices may continue to rise in the coming days.
