Commerce Minister Announces Arrival of Crucial Urea Shipment for Rabi Season

In a significant development for Pakistan's agricultural sector, Commerce Minister Dr. Gohar Ejaz took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce the arrival of the first vital Urea shipment at Karachi Port. This strategic move aims to ensure a steady supply of Urea throughout the crucial Rabi sowing season, spanning from October to March.

This timely arrival is a testament to the government's commitment to supporting farmers with the essential resources required for cultivating abundant harvests. Dr. Gohar Ejaz emphasized the significance of food security, highlighting the administration's dedication to fostering sustainable growth in Pakistan's agricultural sector.

The government's proactive measures to bolster agriculture have yielded positive results, evident in a notable 12.4% year-on-year surge in the country's overall nutrient offtake, reaching 543,000 tons in November 2023. This compares favorably to the offtake of 483,000 tons recorded in the same month the previous year.

Breaking down the figures, Urea offtake specifically saw an increase of 4.8% in November 2023, totaling 611,000 tons compared to the corresponding month in 2022. Simultaneously, DAP offtake witnessed a substantial rise of 17.7%, reaching 278,000 tons, showcasing a robust growth trend in the agricultural sector.

This move aligns with broader government initiatives aimed at supporting Pakistan's economy and enhancing food security. As the nation gears up for the Rabi season, the timely availability of Urea sets a positive tone for farmers and the agricultural community.
