Today, there was a correction on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) as the benchmark KSE-100 index ended its 11-day bullish run and closed 0.4% lower at 49,531.01.

The index had a strong start and momentarily broke above 50,000 for the first time since June 2017, but it was unable to maintain the pace as profit-taking took place close to the crucial psychological threshold.

With an intraday high of 50,017.45 (+286.10) and a low of 49,508.42 (-222.93) points, the market moved in a range of 509.03 points.

The PSX has experienced a modest cooling off after a period of high market activity. Trading volumes have decreased to about 221.286 million shares, down from yesterday's 296.341 million shares traded.

Notably, the KSE-100 is only 7.26% behind its peak, which was reached in May 2017 at 53,127.

Out of the 100 index companies, 5 stayed untraded, 40 closed higher, and 55 closed lower.

Commercial banks scored 69.96 points, oil and gas exploration companies 56.6, technology and communication 53.79, power generation & distribution 31.96, and oil and gas marketing companies 21.04 points, all of which underperformed the KSE-100 Index.

HUBC with 35.74, TRG with 27.49, UBL with 26.27, PPL with 22 and MCB with 20.92 points were the companies that pulled the index lower.

Cement scored 52.58, Car Parts & Accessories scored 12.52, Paper & Board scored 8.58, Food & Personal Care Products scored 7.88, and Chemical scored 5.34 points in support of the KSE-100 index.

LUCK with 15.13, PIOC with 14.01, THALL with 12.52, CHCC with 12.47, and MLCF with 12.25 points were the companies that added points to the index.

The All-Share index ended the day at 33,108.42, down 110.60 points on the overall market.

The traded value was recorded at Rs10.4 billion, indicating a loss of Rs3.72 billion, while the total market volume was 368.341 million shares, down from 467.384 from the previous session.

A total of 342 businesses reported 157,140 trades, of which 148 closed up, 182 down, and 12 remained unchanged.

In summary, the KSE-100 increased by 8,078 points, or 19.49%, over the course of the fiscal year. In contrast, the KSE-100 increased cumulatively by 9,111 points, or 22.54%, over the current calendar year.
