Exciting news for iPhone users: OpenAI's ChatGPT Voice feature is now accessible to all free users. This revelation opens the door to an intriguing alternative to Siri on your iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. These latest models from Apple introduce the Action Button, replacing the longstanding Mute button. In a groundbreaking move, users can now customize this button through a new Settings menu, expanding its functionality beyond simply muting the ringer.

Tailor the Action Button to your liking—whether it's opening the Camera, activating the Flashlight, recording a Voice Memo, launching the Magnifier app, accessing Accessibility features, or running an app Shortcut. The latter option, particularly noteworthy after the recent announcement, allows users to integrate ChatGPT's Voice access feature seamlessly.

Previously, associating this iOS Shortcut with the Action Button required a ChatGPT+ subscription. However, with Voice access becoming free for all users, anyone can now set aside Siri and opt for ChatGPT by configuring the Action Button accordingly.

To set this up, navigate to the "Action Button" menu in the iOS Settings screen, select the "Shortcut" option, and tap "Choose a Shortcut." Scroll down to "ChatGPT" and choose "Start voice conversation" to link this action with the button. Ensure you have the Shortcuts app downloaded on your iPhone if you haven't already.

Once configured, press and hold the Action Button to initiate your ChatGPT voice session. Choose from five distinct voices for your ChatGPT assistant—Ember, Sky, Breeze, Juniper, and Cove—and enjoy a conversation that rivals Siri in intelligence.

It's essential to highlight that ChatGPT is not the only app embracing the capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max's new feature. The Action Button can be configured for various tasks, from ordering your favorite Starbucks coffee to starting a workout or even Shazaming a song.

Numerous third-party apps, spanning categories like music, food, utilities, productivity, photography, workout, reading, meditation, entertainment, and AI utilities, have incorporated Action Button shortcuts. This includes popular apps like AirScrobble, Calory, Sleep Cycle Kids, Halide, and many more.

If none of the existing shortcuts suit your needs, you can create custom shortcuts using the Shortcuts app, further enhancing the versatility of the Action Button.

In a playful note, the article hints at the desire to make ChatGPT the default assistant on the iPhone, adding a touch of anticipation for potential future developments.
