Sindh cabinet greenlights funds for development projects, aiming to fuel progress

In a significant move to propel economic growth and infrastructural development, the Sindh cabinet has given the nod to financial allocations for a range of vital projects. These include a substantial Rs 29.379 billion earmarked for settling government electricity bills, indicating a proactive stance to address utility concerns.

Moreover, the cabinet has allocated Rs 768.6 million to facilitate the operation of 50 electric buses on the city's roads, aiming to promote eco-friendly transportation solutions. In a bid to enhance local public transportation, a subsidy of Rs 579.756 million has been approved for intra-district people's buses.

The commitment to improved connectivity is underscored by the approval of Rs 1.1 billion for the construction of a Link Road Interchange. This investment is poised to enhance regional transportation networks and bolster economic activities.

Recognizing the significance of preserving natural habitats, the cabinet has allocated Rs 33.956 million for the boundary demarcation and fixing of boundary pillars at Khirthar National Park. This move aligns with environmental conservation efforts and safeguards precious biodiversity.

Education infrastructure is also in focus, with a substantial allocation of Rs 1424.720 million for the reconstruction of three schools in the West district. This investment underscores the government's commitment to providing quality education infrastructure for the youth.

Furthermore, the restoration of cultural heritage finds a place on the agenda, as the cabinet has approved Rs 115 million for the rejuvenation of the Hindu Gymkhana, reflecting a dedication to preserving historical and cultural landmarks.

The meeting, chaired by caretaker Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar, convened at the CM House on Tuesday. Provincial caretaker ministers, Chief Secretary Dr Fakhre Alam, Chairman P&D Sahkil Mangnejo, and other key officers were in attendance.

Chief Secretary Dr Fakhre Alam updated the cabinet on an additional proposal, suggesting an allocation of Rs 300 million (Rs 10 million for each of the 30 DCs) to cover election expenditures for returning officers/deputy commissioners. The provision of additional funds on a case-to-case basis was also discussed in case of any shortfall.
