Pakistan’s weekly inflation jumps to 27.5 per cent

The short-term inflation, as gauged by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), has continued its upward trajectory, registering a year-on-year surge of 27.57 percent for the week ending August 17, as reported by official data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.

In a week-on-week analysis, the immediate inflationary pressures climbed by 0.78 percent, signaling a persistent trend without any indications of abating. This persistent rise is causing concerns among both economists and consumers.

Based on the data provided, the Combined Index stood at 275.57, a contrast to the 273.43 recorded on August 10, 2023. Comparatively, a year prior, on August 18, 2022, the index had rested at 216.02.
