Over 680,000 Animals Worth Rs500 Billion Sacrificed Nationwide on Eid ul Adha

Islamabad: In a statement released by the Pakistan Tanners Association on Wednesday, it was reported that over 680,000 livestock, valued at over Rs500 billion, were sacrificed across Pakistan during the three days of Eid ul Adha.

Agha Syedain, a member of the association's Central Executive Committee, detailed that the sacrificial animals included 290,000 cows, 330,000 goats, 385,000 sheep, and 98,000 camels. Additionally, 165,000 water buffalo were sacrificed to fulfill religious obligations.

The total financial value of the sacrificed animals surpassed Rs500 billion, with the hides alone estimated to be worth approximately Rs85 billion.

The association also voiced concerns about the potential loss of 40% of hides due to extreme heat and improper handling caused by climatic changes.

Typically, the leather industry sources 20% of its annual hide demand during Eid ul Adha. However, this year, there are fears that the supply may fall short by more than 20%.
