Iran’s Ambassador Advocates Unrestricted Movement of Trucks to Boost Economic Ties with Pakistan

In a significant move aimed at strengthening economic bonds, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, urged on Wednesday for the seamless movement of Iranian trucks, advocating for unrestricted access at least up to Quetta, as per a press release issued on the same day.

During a meeting with Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana, the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the Iranian ambassador emphasized the importance of expanding the parking area on the Taftan side to facilitate Iranian trucks. While Chairman FBR acknowledged legal hurdles, he assured Dr. Moghaddam that the matter would be thoroughly examined.

Discussions between the two representatives extended to matters concerning customs, cross-border trade, and the management of a streamlined bilateral trade flow. Both parties expressed a commitment to eliminating obstacles in barter trade to promote increased economic activities between the two neighboring nations.

Furthermore, an agreement was reached to expedite the operationalization of the gate at the Rimdan-Gabd crossing point, aimed at easing the process for traders and enhancing cross-border trade.

In a technological leap, both sides also committed to working on the early implementation of sharing trade-related data digitally through the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system.
