USSEC and PPA Join Forces with Landmark MOU Signing in Dubai

In a significant development, the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and the Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) formalized a strategic collaboration through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Dubai, UAE on December 12, 2023. This milestone agreement, as disclosed in a press release, is poised to pave the way for accelerated growth in Pakistan's poultry industry.

The memorandum signifies a crucial step forward in addressing Pakistan's food and nutrition security goals, particularly in the wake of challenges faced in 2023. With record-high food inflation impacting the accessibility of poultry, historically the most affordable source of protein, this collaboration becomes especially timely. Pakistan, ranking 102 out of 125 countries in the Global Hunger Index, underscores the urgency of initiatives like this to bolster the nation's food security.

Stan Born, Chairman of USSEC, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, "Collaborative efforts like the MoU between USSEC and the PPA will steer us in achieving our collective goal of food and nutrition security. I am positive that this MoU is only the beginning. Together we can nourish and build a more resilient, food-secure Pakistan."

The partnership aims to capitalize on U.S. Soy's high-quality and nutritional profile, which has played a vital role in the exponential growth of Pakistan's poultry industry. This includes the use of soybean meal, a key ingredient in poultry feed, contributing to higher yields and optimal performance.

Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman of PPA, emphasized the positive impact of the collaboration, stating, "PPA looks forward to the sustained and continuous support and help of U.S. Soy to educate our Association members about the appropriate use of soybean meal in poultry feed which will help in the continuous growth of Pakistan's Poultry Industry."

The collaboration focuses on providing affordable and accessible poultry products to the common people of Pakistan, particularly chicken meat and table eggs. This aligns with the joint effort of USSEC and PPA to boost grassroots farmers' productivity.

Key areas of joint collaboration include transparency and information sharing, program development to boost soybean demand in poultry consumption, increasing utilization of U.S. Soy, and capacity building. These initiatives aim to foster economic integration between the U.S. and Pakistan, ensuring a reliable and consistent supply chain.
