Islamabad:The federal government has set ambitious targets for distribution companies (DISCOs) nationwide aimed at increasing electricity demand and reducing line losses in the upcoming financial year.

According to official documents, DISCOs are tasked with significantly expanding electricity connections across Pakistan. The government plans to facilitate over 1.775 million new electricity connections within the year, which includes providing electricity to 6,937 new villages across various regions.

Specifically, Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) and Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) have been assigned targets to provide more than 450,000 and 330,000 new connections, respectively.

Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) have set targets of over 283,000 and 268,000 new connections, respectively.

Furthermore, MEPCO and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) have been tasked with providing electricity to 2,440 and 1,500 new villages under their jurisdictions, respectively. Additionally, Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) and FESCO each have plans to electrify 1,000 new villages.

In addition to expanding access, DISCOs are mandated to reduce line losses and improve efficiency in their distribution networks. These measures aim to enhance overall service delivery and minimize electricity wastage.
