Caretakers Bow to Power Tariff Demands?

Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the interim Prime Minister, has asked the Power Division to take concrete steps to lower the excess electricity bills within the next 48 hours.

The first round of the emergency meeting on the rise in power rates took place on Sunday, and the second round will take place today (Monday).

The prime minister was given a full briefing on the July electricity price rise. The prime minister stated that no action would be made in haste that will hurt the country, and that such steps would be adopted that would not burden the national exchequer while still providing convenience to customers.

He went on to say that it is impossible for the common man to be burdened while bureaucrats and the Prime Minister get free electricity as a result of their taxes.

According to the prime, the respective ministries and linked institutions shall submit information on the officers and institutions receiving free electricity. He stated that he represents the common man and that the cost of power in the Prime Minister’s House and the Pakistan Secretariat should be kept as low as possible. If you have to turn off the air conditioning in my room, do so, he added.

Today will also see a detailed consultation with provincial chief ministers on the implementation of energy-saving measures and the issue of July excess bills.

He demanded that distribution companies produce a road map to avoid electricity theft, and that power sector changes and short, medium, and long-term strategies be presented as quickly as feasible.

The interim Cabinet Federal Ministers Shamshad Akhtar, Gohar Ijaz, Murtaza Solangi, Advisor to Prime Minister Dr Waqar Masood, Secretary Power, Chairman Wapda, Chairman Nepra, and other relevant senior officials attended the first round of the emergency meeting in the month of July under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
