X/Twitter was suspended on orders of security agencies, IHC told

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) today heard the petition filed by Ehtesham Abbasi against the suspension of social media platform X.

According to the details, the Joint Secretary Interior appeared before the court and submitted the Ministry of Interior’s report. The Ministry of Interior told the court that X, formerly known as Twitter, was closed on February 17 on the orders of security agencies.

Furthermore, the Interior Ministry said that X was shut down because content against national security was uploaded. X was a threat to the country’s security, the Ministry of Interior responded to the X/Twitter shutdown in the court.

“I can make more speeches than you,” Chief Justice expressed frustration over the answer of the Joint Secretary Interior. IHC Chief Justice Amir Farooq during the hearing sought clarifications on the contents of the report.

The Islamabad High Court has summoned the Secretary of Interior in a personal capacity after Eid. Later, IHC adjourned the hearing on Ehtesham Abbasi’s application against the closure of X till April 17.
