WhatsApp rolls out 32-person video call, chat transfer feature

Islamabad: WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has introduced two new features: 32-person video calls and a chat transfer feature.

WhatsApp has announced significant upgrades to its video calling capabilities. Users can now watch videos together during calls, and the maximum number of participants has been increased to 32 across all devices. Additionally, a new speaker spotlight feature highlights the active speaker during a video call.

Meta has also introduced the Meta Low Bitrate (MLow) codec, enhancing call reliability and providing twice the audio quality with reduced computing complexity. This technology, already in use on Instagram and Messenger calls, will be available on WhatsApp in the coming weeks.

Moreover, WhatsApp is developing a feature to transfer chat history between devices without relying on Google Drive backups, ensuring a smoother and more user-friendly experience. These updates reflect WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing its features and improving user experience.

Previously, WhatsApp rolled out a new feature for Mac users, allowing them to share status updates directly from their computers. This feature, initially launched for Android devices, enables users to share images, videos, GIFs, text, and voice messages via status updates from any linked device.

The latest WhatsApp beta for Mac version 24.11.73, available on the TestFlight app, allows beta testers to post status updates directly from the status tab on their Macs.
