Sazgar Engineering Works Limited (PSX: SAZEW) achieved a significant milestone as it was bestowed with the inaugural license for electric rickshaw manufacturing during a special ceremony hosted by the Punjab Transport Department in Lahore on Tuesday, as reported by Radio Pakistan.

This momentous occasion officially heralds the initiation of the electric rickshaw industry in the province of Punjab.

During the ceremony, Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed optimism about a future dominated by all-electric vehicles in Pakistan. He acknowledged the hurdles faced by the transport department, particularly in implementing axle load restrictions and driving license reforms.

Furthermore, the government, in a commendable move, unveiled plans to distribute 26,000 electric motorbikes and rickshaws to the public on an interest-free basis, according to Radio Pakistan.

As part of the announced initiatives, the minister outlined a scheme to provide 10,000 electric bikes to students, facilitated by the Bank of Punjab. Simultaneously, Punjab Bank would support another 10,000 electric rickshaws.

In a concerted effort to promote the adoption of electric vehicles, the chief minister emphasized the superior quality of electric rickshaws and their pivotal role in mitigating pollution.

Further plans include the distribution of 10,000 electric rickshaws without interest and the allocation of 2,000 three-wheeler bikes to special individuals, as highlighted by Radio Pakistan.

In a broader outreach, civil secretariat employees, women from the government and private sectors, and government employees are slated to receive 2,000 electric bikes each, all on a free-of-interest basis.
