PTA Assures Internet Services Will Not be Disrupted on Election Day
Internet services will remain normal and accessible for all users.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has assured that internet services will function normally on election day, i.e. February 08, debunking rumors of pre-planned disruptions that were taking rounds in the media.
On the one hand, the country has been striving to boost its IT presence in the global market to increase exports, by launching various initiatives.
However, frequent internet shutdowns would have serious economic consequences. Yousuf M. Farooq, Director of Research at Chase Securities, expressed his views on social media earlier in December 2023, stating that the country cannot compete in IT/freelancing if the internet keeps turning off.
The closure of internet and broadband services has, at many times, resulted in significant financial losses for business owners, freelancers, and telecom companies operating in Pakistan.
