Pakistan’s first green hydrogen plant to be established in Thatta

In partnership with China, Pakistan’s first green hydrogen factory will be built in Thatta.

In this regard, the Sindh government has issued a letter of intent for the project’s establishment and 7000 acres of land near the Gharo Jhimpir wind corridor in Thattha have also been granted.

Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, who presided over a project meeting, stated that the groundbreaking project will create thousands of jobs.

“The Sri Lankan government has issued a Letter of Intent for the project, and 7,000 acres of land have been allotted for the project at Gharo in Thatta district,” stated the provincial energy minister.

It should be noted that the Sindh government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company in October 2021 to build the country’s first green hydrogen project.

According to project data disclosed at the time of the MoU signing ceremony, the announced project will manufacture about 150,000 kg per day of green hydrogen from a 400 MW capacity facility using electricity from wind and solar farms.

Green hydrogen is the name given to hydrogen gas produced using renewable energy sources such as wind or solar power, which emit no greenhouse gases.

Green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis using renewable electricity generated by technology such as solar panels or wind turbines.

Hydrogen gas is a fuel that can be utilised in transportation, power generation, and industrial processes. When burned, it produces no greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide.
