Pakistan Railways adds high-capacity freight wagons to its fleet.
Islamabad: Pakistan Railways has recently expanded its operational capacity by inducting 40 high-capacity freight wagons into its fleet. These wagons, manufactured locally with Chinese technology, signify a significant advancement for the railway network. Built to international standards, they can carry loads of up to 70 tonnes at speeds of 100 kilometers per hour. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by CEO Aamir Baloch, marking a milestone in freight transportation.

Looking forward, Pakistan Railways aims to further enhance its fleet, with plans to introduce an additional 820 wagons by the fiscal year 2025–26. This expansion strategy aligns with the government's agenda to promote local manufacturing and reduce import dependency. It is projected to generate an annual income boost of Rs9 billion while conserving foreign reserves.

In anticipation of Eidul Adha 2024, Pakistan Railways has announced a 25% reduction in train fares for a three-day period. This initiative demonstrates the railway authority's commitment to facilitating travel during festive seasons and ensuring affordability for passengers. The fare reduction, applicable to all passenger trains except for Eid specials, aims to alleviate the financial burden on travelers.

These recent initiatives reflect Pakistan Railways' ongoing efforts to modernize its operations and enhance customer satisfaction. Earlier in May 2024, the railway authority announced a reduction in train fares across various classes, further underscoring its commitment to providing affordable and efficient transportation services to the public.
