Nepra Announces Quarterly Adjustment, Electricity Rates Increase by Rs3.7 per Unit

Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has announced a quarterly adjustment, resulting in a total electricity rate increase of Rs3.76 per unit.

According to the notification regarding the price adjustment, Nepra has authorized power companies to recover over Rs46 billion from consumers during the third quarter of FY2023-24, spanning June, July, and August 2024.

"In accordance with Proviso (ii) to Sub-Section 7 of Section 31 of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 1997 [...], Nepra hereby notifies the complete decision of the authority regarding requests submitted by XWDISCOs for periodic adjustments in tariffs for the third quarter of FY 2023-24, as previously communicated to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) on May 31, 2024.

"The recovery will be conducted at rates of Rs1.90/kWh, Rs0.9262/kWh, and Rs0.9262/kWh in the months of June, July, and August, respectively. This adjustment will be applicable to all consumer categories, except lifeline consumers of XWDISCOs and K-Electric," stated Nepra.

The authority has instructed all relevant power distribution companies to strictly adhere to court orders despite this decision.
