More Than 7,000 Mobile SIMs Reinstated Following Tax Return Submissions

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is making strides in broadening the tax base, achieving encouraging outcomes from a recent initiative.

Following the submission of tax returns by their owners, more than 7,000 mobile SIMs have been reinstated, marking a successful phase in FBR's ongoing efforts.

FBR sources disclosed that they have provided telecom companies with data on 65,000 non-filers, directing them to block the mobile SIMs of those who did not file tax returns.

This action is part of a larger initiative aimed at addressing a total of 506,671 non-filers identified in a comprehensive list compiled by the FBR.

Under the Income Tax General Order, it was decided to gradually deactivate the SIMs of these non-filers to incentivize compliance. The strategy appears effective, with the latest data indicating that 7,166 individuals have now filed tax returns and had their SIMs restored.

The FBR's campaign seeks to enhance tax collection and ensure that all eligible taxpayers fulfill their obligations. The reinstatement of SIMs for compliant individuals reflects the efficacy of these measures. By progressively deactivating SIMs of non-filers, the FBR anticipates further enhancing compliance rates and expanding the tax base.
