Lahore Set to Become First Asian City to Introduce Eco-Friendly Roads

Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, is preparing to introduce the concept of “Blue Roads,” which will make it the first city in Asia and Pakistan to have environmentally friendly roads.

The proposal is being developed by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (PCBDDA), also known as Central Business District Punjab (CBD Punjab).

Officials state that the aim of this concept is to modernize the city’s infrastructure and enhance the residents’ quality of life.

Blue Roads are designed as sustainable alternatives to traditional asphalt roads, incorporating features such as heat observation and energy conservation to reduce pollution and create a healthier environment.

These innovative roads utilize a specialized coating that reflects sunlight, reducing the heat absorbed by the road surface. Additionally, the reflective coating enhances visibility for drivers at night, thereby improving road safety.

CBD Punjab CEO Imran Amin, as directed by caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, has urged the timely execution of the project, as reported by officials.

Imran Amin expressed excitement about introducing the Blue Road concept in Pakistan, noting its successful implementation in several European and Middle Eastern countries like the Netherlands, France, and Qatar.

He highlighted that the project would bring environmental benefits, including heat observation, energy conservation, and reduced pollution, while contributing to their vision of establishing a modern, sustainable, and inclusive society in Punjab.

Amin emphasized the commitment of their organization to deliver projects that enhance the residents’ standard of living, stating that the introduction of the Blue Road concept is just one of many initiatives aimed at modernizing the city’s infrastructure and improving the citizens’ quality of life.
