Suzuki Motor Corp of Japan announced on Tuesday that it has established an agreement with SkyDrive Inc to develop “flying cars.”

The businesses will manufacture electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at a Suzuki Group factory in central Japan, with production set to begin in the spring of next year, according to Suzuki.

SkyDrive will establish a wholly-owned subsidiary to manufacture the aircraft, while Suzuki will assist with manufacturing preparations, including talent acquisition, according to the automaker.

SkyDrive is headquartered in Toyota, Japan, and its primary shareholders include trade firm Itochu Corp, technology firm NEC Corp, and a unit of energy company Eneos Holdings Inc.

In March of last year, the two corporations agreed to collaborate on research, development, and marketing of flying automobiles.
