Interior Ministry Ordered to Withdraw Closure Notice for Twitter

Recently, the Sindh High Court told the Interior Ministry to take back its notice to shut down Twitter, the popular social media site.

During a meeting on Wednesday about shutting down Twitter, the court said the Interior Ministry has to take back its letter within a week. If they don't, the court will make a decision about it.

The Interior Ministry has until May 9 to explain why they want to shut down Twitter, according to the court.

At the same time, the Islamabad High Court is looking at a request to stop Twitter from being shut down. The Interior Ministry sent a report to the Islamabad High Court saying the person who made the request hasn't lost any rights.

In their report, the ministry says Twitter should be banned in Pakistan because it doesn't follow the government's rules. They say it's against the law and facts to challenge shutting down Twitter. They mention that the Federal Investigation Agency asked Twitter to ban accounts that speak against the chief justice, but Twitter didn't do it.

The ministry says Twitter not cooperating gives a reason to take action against it, including temporarily shutting it down. Even though Twitter is registered in Pakistan, it hasn't agreed to follow Pakistani laws.

So, the government feels it has to temporarily shut down Twitter, according to the ministry.
