On Thursday, the Embassy of Ethiopia in Islamabad was inaugurated by Hina Rabbani Khar, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and her Ethiopian counterpart, Misganu Arega. Khar noted the historical significance of the occasion, as Pakistani Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto inaugurated Pakistan’s embassy in Ethiopia seventy years ago.

She emphasized the similarities in the economic and developmental challenges faced by both countries, as well as the resilience of their people in achieving their goals. Khar also highlighted the potential benefits of direct flight operations by Ethiopian Airlines to Karachi, which could boost bilateral trade and people-to-people connections.

In response, Arega expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for the warm welcome and acknowledged the long-standing cordial relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan since 1958. He expressed his belief that the opening of the embassy marks a new chapter in diplomatic, political, economic, and social cooperation between the two countries.

Prior to the inauguration, Ethiopian Airlines resumed its direct flights to Pakistan, with the first flight landing at Jinnah International Airport Karachi on Tuesday. The Sindh Chief Minister and his delegation welcomed the flight at the airport, along with other provincial ministers.
