Elections likely to be held on old census data

According to Federal Minister of Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, the general elections could be held using obsolete census data.

In a statement, Ahsan Iqbal emphasised that elections will be held at the scheduled period, and the prime minister has already stated that it is the job of the election commission to complete the vote date.

He also stated that the general elections may be held using outdated census data. According to Iqbal, delimitations are still waiting following the latest population census. “If elections are held in October, they will be based on outdated census data.”

According to the planning minister, the authorities discovered differences in the population count of some localities in the recent census. The federal government extended the census deadline at the request of the province, he added.

According to Ahsan Iqbal, it would be impossible to release census results in accordance with the new election schedule.

A two-thirds majority, according to the federal minister, is required for a constitutional modification. He stated that the country requires reforms, but that they cannot be implemented with a weak mandate.

Last month, Ahsan Iqbal announced that Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan.

According to Ahsan Iqbal, cases were filed against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as part of a conspiracy, but the legal team is working hard to win justice for the PML-N supremo.

The federal minister insisted that the poll will be held on time and that the PML-N would win again, as it did in 2013.

He went on to say that in 2018, a conspiracy halted Pakistan’s progress toward prosperity, and the politics of hatred began.

According to Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan is currently in debt and the government must accept every condition imposed by the IMF.
