Chairlift cable break: Army helicopter reaches Battagram to rescue students

A Pakistan Army Helicopter arrived in Battagram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday to rescue kids and teachers who had become stranded airborne after the rope of a chairlift traveling over a river broke in the Allai Jhangray Pashto area.

A chairlift carrying schoolchildren became stranded in midair after its rope snapped in Battagram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to reports, the chairlift became stuck in Battagram’s Tehsil Alai, leaving eight pupils and their instructor stranded in midair for several hours. There have been no attempts to save the people.

The stranded individuals are yelling for assistance. Meanwhile, rescuers have stated that a helicopter is required to rescue the victims.

Commissioner Hazara Sultan Aamir stated that he has phoned the KP government and the Pakistan Army for helicopter assistance, adding that an Army Aviation chopper is on its way to rescue the stranded pupils and teachers.

A man named Gulfaraz stated that seven schoolchildren and another man are trapped in the chairlift.

He stated that they have been stranded midair in the chairlift since 7 a.m., and that two chairlift ropes have already been broken. We’re still waiting for assistance, he added.

Previously, four persons were killed when a cable fell into the Indus River near Sammar Nallah in the region of Upper Kohistan.

The deceased was crossing the river from Shitial to Tangir in Gilgit-Baltistan when the chairlift’s string snapped in two, dropping them into the swift-flowing river.
