ISLAMABAD: A resolution to postpone the general elections was passed by the Senate and given to the Pakistani Election Commission on Saturday.

According to sources, the Election Commission is holding a meeting to debate the resolution, noting the nation's worsening security situation and bringing up the attacks on Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Mohsin Dawar in particular. The resolution suggests delaying the elections scheduled for February 8 in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the current circumstances are unsuitable for election campaigning in these areas.—NNI
