Addressing Water Concerns in Peshawar: SCCI Partners with WWF Pakistan

PESHAWAR: President Fuad Ishaq of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has voiced apprehensions about the declining water table in Peshawar, urging the government and World Wide Fund (WWF) Pakistan to collaborate urgently in implementing measures to curb the escalating wastage of water and ensure its preservation.

During a meeting at the Chamber House with a delegation from WWF Pakistan, led by Programme Manager ILES Muhammad Rashid, President Fuad Ishaq emphasized the need for joint efforts to address the critical water situation in Peshawar.

The WWF Pakistan delegation, which included Muhammad Waseem, Head of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Region, Aimal Khan Barki, Conservation Officer Peshawar, Hamza Latif, Senior SP ILES, Maham Zahna, Project Officer, and Anwar, Liaison Officer, briefed SCCI representatives on the organization's interventions and projects across various sectors such as agriculture, forestry, wildlife, climate change, and oceans.

Sanaullah Khan, SCCI Senior Vice President, and Secretary General Sajjad Aziz were also present during the meeting.

Fuad Ishaq identified potential collaboration areas for both institutions in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and climate change, emphasizing that implementing SCCI's proposals could contribute significantly to water conservation and alleviate environmental challenges.

The SCCI president proposed joint ventures in sectors like ice factories and cold storage, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to efficiently conserve water.

Following discussions, the SCCI chief and WWF Pakistan delegation agreed to explore joint ventures and collaborations for water conservation and preservation. Both parties committed to signing a formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the near future.

Earlier, President Fuad Ishaq participated in a stakeholders' workshop on increasing water challenges in KP, organized by WWF Pakistan in Peshawar. He provided valuable proposals for the conservation and preservation of water, emphasizing the urgency of controlling water wastage in the province.
