Wheat Cultivation Exceeds 22 Million Acres in Rabi Season 2023-24

Wheat cultivation has surpassed 22.73 million acres across diverse crop-growing regions during the Rabi season 2023-24, aiming to fulfill staple food requirements and maintain strategic reserves, as reported by APP.

For the ongoing season (2023-24), the cultivation targets were established at 22.22 million acres. By the conclusion of the second week of the current month, the targets were exceeded by 2.03 times, disclosed Food Security Commissioner Imtiaz Ali Gopang.

Highlighting the momentum in wheat cultivation, Gopang mentioned that Punjab Province has completed sowing over 2.03 times the designated areas compared to the set targets.

Punjab, being the largest wheat-producing province, achieved crop sowing over 16.48 million acres, surpassing the fixed targets of 15.99 million acres for the current season.

Simultaneously, Sindh Province accomplished 2.07 times of its targets, with wheat cultivation in various divisions reaching 3.16 million acres against the set targets of 2.97 million acres.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also reached 100% of its wheat sowing targets, with crop cultivation finalized over 1.93 million acres, matching the set targets for the current sowing season.

According to the Provincial Crop Reporting Services, Balochistan Province accomplished 100% of the wheat sowing targets for the current season, cultivating 1.93 million acres against the assigned task of 1.33 million acres.

The Food Security Commissioner shared that around 729,000 metric tons of high-quality certified wheat seeds will be available during the current season, covering over 46% of the total local demand for such seeds.

Apart from seeds, the government is actively implementing strategies to ensure an ample supply of essential agricultural inputs, including fertilizers, pesticides, and facilitating access to finance, all aimed at achieving the predetermined targets for the season.
