Specialized Tribunal for Telecom Cases to Accelerate Sector Growth

In a significant development for the telecom sector, disputes and cases will no longer be routed through high courts but will instead be addressed by a dedicated tribunal. This strategic move is anticipated to expedite the resolution of legal matters, fostering the rapid advancement of the telecom industry, according to Caretaker Federal Minister of IT & Telecom, Dr. Umar Saif, as conveyed in a post on X.

Dr. Saif emphasized that the newly established Telecommunication Appellate Tribunal will handle appeals arising from decisions made by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. The decision is rooted in the powers conferred by the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act, 1996, and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, as outlined in the minister's statement of objects and reasons.

By creating this specialized tribunal, the burden on High Courts in dealing with technical matters related to the telecom sector is expected to be alleviated significantly, thereby streamlining the adjudication process.
