Sindh Unveils 'Social Protection Delivery System' Across 15 Districts

HYDERABAD: The Sindh caretaker Minister for Information, Social Protection, and Minorities, Mohammad Ahmed Shah, announced the commencement of the "Strengthening Social Protection Delivery System in Sindh" initiative across 15 districts. In collaboration with the World Bank, this program aims to enhance maternal and child health.

Speaking to the media at Shehbaz Hall, Shehbaz Building in Hyderabad, the minister shared that the program initially kicked off in three districts - Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Matiari - and is set to expand to other regions shortly. He emphasized that the initiative is expected to benefit 1.3 million women and children in Sindh.

As part of the social protection program, mothers will receive a cash grant of 30,000, contributing to the well-being of their children, particularly addressing malnutrition challenges identified in various districts.

Addressing queries about upcoming elections, the minister assured that the Government of Sindh is prepared for the general elections on 8th February. A cabinet meeting is scheduled soon to finalize election arrangements, including training for ROs and DROs and the maintenance of polling stations.

Subsequently, a meeting chaired by the minister at Shehbaz Hall directed the commissioner of Hyderabad to instruct Deputy Commissioners and Health professionals to register additional beneficiaries in the districts. Commissioner Hyderabad, Syed Khalid Hyder Shah, pledged to conduct a meeting with deputy commissioners promptly to discuss the program in detail.

Minister Information Sindh later inaugurated the two-day 9th Hyderabad Literature Festival at Sindh Museum, accompanied by DG Culture Munawar Mahesar, former Secretary Information Mehatab Akbar Rashidi, and MD Sindh Education Foundation Abdul Kabir Qazi. The event featured captivating cultural performances and tablos by students.

The minister also inaugurated the first Health Center under the Strengthening Social Protection Delivery System program at PPHI Tando Soomro in the Tando Allahyar district.
