Sindh Govt Launches ‘Floating Solar Project’

KARACHI: The Sindh government has launched an ambitious ‘Floating Solar Power’ project at Keenjhar Lake, located approximately 36 kilometers from Thatta City.

This innovative project, led by Sindh’s Department of Energy, represents a significant step forward for regional sustainable energy solutions. An agreement has been signed with Go Energy Pvt Ltd to begin work on the Floating Solar Power project, which is expected to be completed within two years.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate 500 megawatts of power and transmit it to K-Electric via the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) network.

This effort is poised to revolutionize Sindh’s energy environment, dramatically increasing the province’s electricity supply. During the signing event, Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah highlighted the project’s potential benefits for the province’s power customers.

He reiterated the Sindh government’s dedication to tackling energy shortages and enhancing the overall power infrastructure. Shah also urged the federal government to ensure a sufficient gas supply to alleviate the ongoing energy deficits in urban areas.
