SECP Introduces Workplace Safety Measures in Proposed Corporate Governance Revisions

In an effort to champion workplace safety and cultivate a culture of respect, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has released draft amendments to the Listed Companies (Code of Corporate Governance) Regulations, 2019, inviting public feedback.

The proposed revisions necessitate that the board of directors of listed companies adopts comprehensive anti-harassment policies, aligning them with the guidelines set forth in the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, and pertinent provincial laws.

The amendments outline several crucial measures to ensure the effective implementation of anti-harassment policies mandated by the Workplace Act, 2010. These include the formulation of a Code of Conduct, establishment of an Inquiry Committee, appointment of a Competent Authority, and the public display of the Code of Conduct for employee awareness, ensuring transparent communication and accessibility.

This initiative signifies a significant stride towards creating a corporate landscape in Pakistan that is not only more equitable but also adheres to ethical standards.

The incorporation of robust anti-harassment policies into the Code of Corporate Governance establishes a solid foundation for responsible business practices. It serves as a testament to the SECP's dedication to cultivating secure and empowering workplaces for all.
