President Alvi Requests Increased Chinese Investment in Special Economic Zones

To further deepen bilateral economic cooperation, President Dr. Arif Alvi has advocated for increased Chinese investment in a variety of economic sectors in Pakistan, particularly in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

The Vice-Premier of the State Council of China He Lifeng and Special Representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping paid him a visit at Aiwan-e-Sadr today, and during their conversation, the president expressed Pakistan's desire for Chinese assistance and support in order to develop its textile, information technology (IT), agriculture, and transportation industries.

He welcomed the delegation and emphasised that Pakistan and China had an all-weather strategic cooperation alliance and that they had consistently supported one another during trying times. He continued by saying that Pakistan and China had a special bond and that the rest of the world should learn from their long-standing friendship. He was pleased that new areas of collaboration had been added to the bilateral relations between the two nations.

The president claimed that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), in addition to delivering prosperity to the area, would change the economic landscape of Pakistan. He claimed that the CPEC had significantly aided Pakistan in overcoming its electricity constraint. He stressed that Pakistan would continue to give China unwavering support on all of its major concerns.

In addition to praising the Chinese government for lending Pakistan financial help during trying times, the president expressed appreciation for China's principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir conflict. He thanked the vice-premier on receiving the Hilal-e-Pakistan award and expressed his gratitude for his contributions to fostering Pak-China relations and successfully directing the execution of CPEC projects.

The Chinese vice-premier expressed his gratitude to the president and recalled President Dr. Alvi's solidarity travel to China in March 2020, noting that the Chinese people will remember the visit because it was made during a trying time despite the COVID-19 pandemic's threats.

He underlined with pleasure that CPEC had significantly altered Pakistan's socioeconomic and physical environment and was now positioned to substantially raise Pakistan's economic, trade, and connectivity profile throughout the whole region and beyond.

The deputy premier informed the president of the steps the Chinese government has made to end poverty in that country. He expressed his gratitude to the president for awarding him the Hilal-e-Pakistan in honour of his contributions. Additionally, he sent President Alvi the warmest wishes of Chinese President Xi.
