PM Shehbaz Guarantees Protection Amid Growing Concerns Over CPEC Security

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, presiding over a meeting in Punjab's provincial capital focused on law and order and security initiatives in Islamabad, reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of both Pakistani citizens and foreign nationals. Stressing a zero-tolerance policy towards any lapses in maintaining law and order or safeguarding citizens, he underscored the importance of robust security measures across the country.
Earlier, during a Pakistan-China Joint Consultative Mechanism meeting co-chaired with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, concerns were voiced by Liu Jianchao of the Chinese Communist Party regarding security threats impacting cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). These concerns were heightened following a tragic terrorist attack on March 26 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the loss of lives of five Chinese engineers and their Pakistani driver at the Dasu Hydropower Project.
At the meeting chaired by PM Shehbaz Sharif, detailed updates were provided on the current law and order situation in Islamabad, alongside progress reports on vital projects such as the Islamabad Model Jail, Islamabad Safe City, Federal Anti-Terrorism Department initiatives, and enhancements made by the Special Protection Unit. Noteworthy advancements included the establishment of the Islamabad National Facility Centers and a specialized K-9 unit dedicated to bolstering the detection capabilities for narcotics and explosives.
During the session, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also directed an inquiry into the delays hindering the completion of the Islamabad Model Jail, emphasizing the need for expeditious resolutions to ensure effective law enforcement and security measures in the capital.
