PM Kakar says law will take its course on Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan

Interim Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has emphasized that the rule of law will be upheld upon the return of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif. In an interview with BBC Urdu, Kakar stated that the interim government, in coordination with the law ministry, is planning for Sharif’s arrival, and law enforcement agencies will assess whether he has protective bail or other legal options.

Regarding the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Kakar clarified that if courts legally bar Imran Khan from elections after exhausting all legal remedies, it would be beyond the caretaker government’s control. He highlighted the ongoing judicial process and the possibility of legal restrictions on Imran Khan.

Speaking on the economic crisis, Kakar reiterated the caretaker government’s commitment to overcoming challenges and ensuring free and fair elections. He expressed confidence in achieving transparent elections and emphasized economic priorities, including cracking down on illegal currency trade and hoarding. Additionally, Kakar mentioned the government’s intention to privatize state-owned entities such as the Steel Mill, PIA, and Power Discos.

Addressing the aftermath of the war against terrorism, the prime minister acknowledged Pakistan’s significant sacrifices, with over 90,000 lives lost. He highlighted the country’s responsibility in managing the situation independently after the departure of NATO and ISF from the region.

Prime Minister Kakar assured a focus on economic stability, law enforcement, and transparent elections, maintaining a professional and straightforward tone throughout the interview.
