PESCO Implements Reduced Load Shedding in Peshawar

Islamabad: Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has implemented significant reductions in loadshedding duration across 75 high-loss feeders in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), aiming to alleviate hardships during the current heatwave.

Under this initiative, PESCO has scaled back the loadshedding tenure to 12 hours on identified high-loss feeders, which include 13 in Peshawar Circle, 18 in Khyber, 27 in DI Khan, 13 in Bannu, three in Mardan, and one in Swabi. This adjustment seeks to provide relief to consumers enduring prolonged power outages amidst soaring temperatures.

However, PESCO has emphasized that sustained relief is contingent upon reducing losses through an upcoming crackdown on power theft, scheduled within the next 15 days. The company's management clarified that the duration of reduced loadshedding will depend on improved recovery rates and minimized losses.

The move comes amid public outcry and interventions from provincial authorities, including KP ministers, who have raised concerns over excessive loadshedding. Recently, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Tarar criticized KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur's visit to a grid station in Dera Ismail Khan, highlighting the need for coordinated efforts between federal and provincial entities to address electricity issues effectively.

Minister Atta Tarar emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the center and provinces to resolve electricity-related challenges, urging mutual understanding and cooperation for sustainable solutions.
