Pakistan Aims for $5 Billion Smartphone Export in Five Years

The mobile phone industry in Pakistan is experiencing significant growth, with ambitious plans to export smartphones totaling $500 million in the next two years and an astounding $5 billion within the next five years. Dr. Umar Saif, the Federal Minister of IT & Telecom, emphasized this goal during the Pakistan Mobile Summit 2024, organized in collaboration with Techno Mobile.

Comparing Pakistan to India, where mobile phone exports reach $10 billion annually, Dr. Umar Saif expressed confidence in elevating Pakistan's standing in the global mobile phone market. He underscored ongoing efforts to boost smartphone exports manufactured within the country.

Dr. Umar Saif disclosed that licenses have been issued to 35 companies for the assembly of smartphones from various brands. Additionally, a comprehensive policy is in development to encourage the local production of complete phones and certain components.

Highlighting the industry's progress, he noted that approximately 90 million mobile phones have been assembled in the past two years. Moreover, an impressive 250,000 mobile phones, valued at $15 million, have already been exported.
