Pak Suzuki shuts down motorcycle plant for 15 days

Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) faced yet another setback, being forced to halt motorcycle production operations for at least 15 days.

This move is in reaction to an ongoing raw material shortfall, which the company officially informed to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday.

The motorcycle plant will be closed from July 31, 2023, to August 15, 2023, due to a lack of inventory, but the automotive plant will continue to operate normally.

This latest closure follows a previous one in July, when both the motorcycle and vehicle plants were closed until July 19. The prior month’s closure was extended.

Since July of the previous year, the company has been dealing with a prolonged shortage of raw materials, which has been attributed mostly to difficulties in importing these critical components due to a decrease in the nation’s foreign exchange reserves.

Pak Suzuki is not the only automaker impacted by these outages. Honda Atlas Cars and Indus Motor Company, which makes Toyota vehicles in Pakistan, have both recently shut down due to a lack of crucial raw materials.

Scarcity has even affected auto component makers, forcing them to temporarily halt production lines.
