In Lahore, Punjab's First Paraplegic Center Opens

The first paraplegic center in Punjab has opened its doors at the Government General Hospital Samanabad to assist patients who have suffered spinal cord injuries and are paralyzed. Chief Secretary of Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman opened the 20-bed facility on Thursday.

The Chief Secretary examined several areas of the facility, such as the physiotherapy room and the factory where prosthetic limbs are prepared. He also asked the patients receiving undertreatment about the kind of care they were receiving.

The government's first aim, according to the Chief Secretary, is to provide the greatest medical facilities in hospitals. According to him, the province is setting up five centers for the rehabilitation of those who have suffered spinal cord injuries and are paralyzed.

He announced the official opening of the paraplegic center in Lahore and the impending opening of paraplegic centers in Multan, Faisalabad, Taunsa, and Wah Cantt.

The Chief Secretary was briefed by representatives of the health department. They claimed to be compiling an online database of every patient receiving care at the paraplegic center. They said that in order to help patients become contributing members of society, counseling services would also be offered to them.

They added that the paraplegic center now includes a workshop dedicated to the preparation of prosthetic limbs. They added that around 2,000 individuals receive treatment services every day in the Government General Hospital Samanabad's outpatient department.
