Government's Focus on Alternative Energy Sources to Boost Pakistan's Economy, Says Caretaker Information Minister
Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi outlined the government's strategic focus on alternative renewable energy resources to reduce Pakistan's dependence on costly imported fuels. Emphasizing the need to tackle the circular debt issue, he praised China's cooperation in renewable energy projects. The minister also highlighted the previous government's initiative to produce 10,000 MW of solar power and expressed hope for its continuation. Solangi underlined the potential of solar power generation in Pakistan, addressing the financial burden on citizens due to expensive electricity. Additionally, he affirmed the caretaker government's commitment to supporting transparent elections, with the people deciding the country's direction on February 8, 2024.

In an effort to curb reliance on costly imported fuels, the caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, emphasized the government's commitment to developing alternative renewable energy resources. According to state-run Radio Pakistan's report on Sunday, Solangi highlighted that 60 percent of the country's electricity is currently produced through thermal sources, with an additional one-fourth generated via hydel means.
Solangi stressed that the increasing generation of electricity from expensive imported fuels has led to a rise in the circular debt, and he asserted that Pakistan cannot afford this financial strain. Recognizing China's global leadership in electricity generation through renewable energy, he expressed gratitude for China's comprehensive cooperation in implementing renewable energy projects in Pakistan.
Notably, Solangi mentioned that the previous government had taken a significant step by deciding to produce 10,000 MW of solar power. He expressed optimism that the elected government, set to take office, will continue to pursue this policy, considering the tremendous potential Pakistan holds for generating solar power. Acknowledging the financial burden on the people due to expensive electricity, the minister underscored the importance of shifting towards more sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions.
During the discussion, Solangi addressed the caretaker government's commitment to supporting the Election Commission of Pakistan in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections. He stated, "The people of Pakistan will decide the direction of the country on 8th February 2024."
