Furniture Sector to be Granted Industry Status

ISLAMABAD  -  The Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mian Kashif Ashfaq has called on the government to grant the furniture sector independent industry status in the upcoming federal budget. Chairing the council’s meeting on Sunday, he emphasized that this change is essential for boosting exports and driving economic growth. Ashfaq highlighted the sector's significant potential for export earnings, which remains untapped due to the lack of formal industry recognition and support.

To unlock this potential, Ashfaq proposed a comprehensive package of incentives for the furniture industry, including tax breaks, subsidies for raw materials, and easier access to credit for small and medium-sized enterprises. He also stressed the need for investment in skill development and technology to enhance the quality and competitiveness of locally produced furniture in international markets.

Ashfaq pointed out that, with the right support, Pakistan’s furniture sector could compete globally, create jobs, and contribute to the country’s economic stability. He argued that proactive government measures would benefit not only furniture manufacturers but also related sectors such as timber, textiles, and logistics. Recognizing the furniture sector as an industry, he said, is a strategic move to diversify Pakistan’s export portfolio and strengthen its economic resilience.
