Cyberattack Hits Celebrity Accounts

Islamabad: TikTok, the short video app, has taken steps to thwart a cyberattack aimed at various brand and celebrity accounts, including the news network CNN, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the company on Tuesday.

"We have been working closely with CNN to restore access to their accounts and have implemented additional security measures to ensure the safety of their accounts going forward," stated the spokesperson.

TikTok emphasized that the number of compromised accounts is "very small" and assured that they are collaborating with affected account holders to regain access if required.

A source within TikTok informed Reuters that the account belonging to reality TV personality Paris Hilton was targeted but remained secure.

Currently, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is legally contesting a requirement that it must divest TikTok by January or face a ban in the country. The White House has expressed concerns about Chinese ownership due to national security implications.

TikTok has defended its stance, asserting that it does not share U.S. user data with the Chinese government and has implemented significant measures to protect user privacy.
