Caretaker PM Kakar Urges Collaborative Approach to Drive SIFC Initiatives

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has issued directives to all stakeholders to actively pursue initiatives put forth by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) through a collaborative approach. The statement was released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Thursday following the 7th meeting of the Apex Committee of the SIFC in Islamabad, which Kakar chaired.

In attendance were the Army chief, federal cabinet members, provincial chief ministers, and high-level government officials. The PMO statement, shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), conveyed, "The Prime Minister directed all stakeholders to vigorously pursue SIFC’s initiatives through a collaborative approach to reap dividends in the short to medium term, initiating processes for long-term endeavors in the greater interest of the country."

During the meeting, ministries provided updates on projects identified in key sectors and outlined plans to enhance the ecosystem for timely realization of envisaged investments.

The committee expressed satisfaction with the overall progress under the SIFC umbrella, commending the increased engagement levels with friendly countries, both public and private entities. They also acknowledged the outreach strategy aimed at actively involving the investor community.

Policy-level interventions to boost investor confidence, including measures for repatriation of profits, strengthening domestic dispute resolution mechanisms, and infrastructural and human resource development, were approved during the meeting.

A comprehensive strategy to address oil and gas issues sustainably by investing in relevant industries was also directed, alongside a focus on expediting the operationalization of the EXIM Bank.

The committee applauded the progress made in the privatization of state-owned enterprises and emphasized the need to maintain a swift pace in the process.
